Black Sea in NATO Council's final document

The final document of the NATO Council tackles the situation in the Black Sea region and the frozen conflicts as well, the President of Romania Traian Basescu announced yesterday. The head of state highlighted it was extremely important that the final document admitted the strategic importance of the Black Sea region and of the regional conflicts.

The President added in the document there were also mentioned the independence and territorial integrity of the Moldovan Republic, Georgia, Azarbaigjan and Armenia, states housing regional conflicts. He also informed the energy security was in the final document, just as the NATO states' commitment to proceed to exchange of information about possible sabbotage of the energy transport infrastructure.

The great powers are actually having a hot dispute over the Black Sea region. Just one day before the opening of the NATO summit in Bucharest, the US President George W. Bush argued while in Neptun, Romania, that the US shared Romania's concern about security in the region, just as its wish to make the region more important and consolidate democratic government in regional states.

The White House leader made this statement after a report by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had just been released to show that Russia had had to work hard to counter Romania's initiative to establish structures with extra-regional components and the Black Sea Forum for dialogue and partnership in the Black Sea region.
