Romania signs energy agreements with Greece

Varujan Vosganian, Romania's economy and finance minister, and the Greek development minister Christos Folias signed the Agreement between the Romanian Government and the Greek Government yesterday in Victoria Palace, Bucharest.

According to the government's press office, the target is to settle a frame for the development of cooperation in oil, natural gases and electricity, in keeping with national legislation and international obligations. The press office explains: "The main objectives of this agreement are the promotion of bilateral cooperation in energy, the colloboration meant to develop the energy field and also the development of transparent mechanisms to improve energy exchanges in the region."

The agreement is to come into force after the release of the last notification by diplomacy means so that the two parties will communicate that the domestic procedures needed have been achieved.

The document is valid for 5 years and it may be prolonged for 2-year periods successively. It was signed in the presence of the Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu and the Greek PM Kostas Karamanlis, while the latter official was on an official visit to Bucharest yesterday. He was to meet with the President of Romania Traian Basescu, as well as with the His Holiness Daniel, the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church. (M.A.B.)
