"Romania isn't Sodome" vs. "March of Diversity"

Over 1,000 people are expected to participate in the march to end the Gay Fest 2007. Hundreds of guardians will be there on the way participants will take from the Unirii Square to the Izvor Park.

Just like last year, the parade of sexual minorities in Romania will be facing much opposition and proceeding in strained atmosphere. On the one hand there are the Romanian Orthodox Church expressing disagreement and the "New Right" Christian Forum to protest today against the march of lesbians and homosexuals. And much of the Romanian society has joined this side. On the other hand there are the sexual minorities marching for diversity today in an EU state little willing to make room for them. Between shoulder shrugging and overt violence Romania has found no way. (...) (T.B.)
