Assistance for citizenship law

The President of Romania Traian Basescu announced in yesterday's press conference in Brussels that he had decided to ask the European Commission for assistance on the last details regarding the citizenship law in Romania.

He explained he didn't want a law convenient to Romania to harm the EU states' interests. The head of state mentioned he had decided it last Thursday and claimed it was about the fact that EU states, including Romania, had to learn to protect and promote their interests and at the same time to respect and support the other member states' interests.

The Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu too supported the idea in the press conference he held together with the President, which made the latter highlight the Romanian PM had pleaded for it well. (A.H.)
