Conservatives claim Democrats will come to demonstrations by bus

Ioan Oltean, a vice president of the PD (Democrat Party), said yesterday that in his party there had been no talk about the pro-Macovei demonstrations to follow. He commented: "This is a civil society initiative and the Democrat Party won't get involved. In the party we have made no decision on it and we won't make". The Democrat leader denied the Conservatives' accusations that the Democrats would come to the demonstrations for the Romanian Minister of Justice Monica Macovei by bus. Oltean added: "The Conservatives are lying every time. There is no organized structure of the Democrat Party to come to the protests. There may be only the personal initiatives of some people who are also members of the Democrat Party. We support Monica Macovei politically. The rest is speculation."

Still Codrin Stefanescu, a deputy general secretary of the Conservative Party, claims he has got information that the Democrats are willing to carry their supporters to the place to house the pro-Macovei demonstrations by bus. (...) He also mentions there is information that several NGOs are opposing the demonstrations scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. He says they would have liked to organize counter demonstrations, but changed their mind. (...) (C.E., V.D.)
