Romania's tourism offer is on display these days at the International Tourism Fair in Milan - BIT 2007. More than 120 countries from all over the world are displaying places to see.

As for Romania, it is promoting the following destinations: Sibiu - the European Capital of Culture in 2007, the Danube Delta - the Landscape of 2007 and George Enescu Festival. "We are focussing on these three destinations now and we will be doing the same in the next fair due in Berlin", says Bogdan Ivan, a vice president of the National Authority for Tourism. Because of the target to promote the cultural dimension of the tourism offer in particular, Romanian's stall has got the stylized form of a church. If you take a look from a different angle, it suggests the shape of a crown, such as children draw for kings, explains Ligia Hofnar, a head of the Office for Tourism Promotion in Rome.

Mircea Gheordunescu is the Romanian consul in Madrid and he thinks the event is a good opportunity for more and more Italians to choose Romania as tourism destination. He comments: "The Italians' interest in Romania has been growing. The stand and the preparations made for this fair are much superior to those in previous events and we hope the outcome will be positive."

Most Italians go for 1 or 2 week breaks in Romania and they visit Maramures, the medieval citadels, and the churches in northern Moldavia, the Danube Delta and Bucharest. Still Ligia Hofnar outlines: "But many don't use tourism agencies and they go for free tourism."
