Boc declares war to the DIICOT prosecutors

PD (Democrat Party) chairman is displeased with the fact he has been cited as a witness in the case file of the journalists from Gazeta newspaper. The Cluj-Napoca mayor intends to ask for moral compensations for his public image having been offended.

PD leader Emil Boc asked for explanations yesterday, from the DIICOT (Directorate of Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism Infractions within the Parquet of the High Court of Cassation and Justice in Romania) prosecutors in Cluj County regarding the reasons his name appeared in the "Gazeta" case file. Boc claimed he hadn't been blackmailed by members of the media trust and said he did not understand why his name appeared in the file since he wasn't charged with anything. The political leader's natural gesture wasn't obvious in the cases of other political leaders who had been accused of criminal offence on the basis of similar facts.

"To arbitrarily link the name of a public person of a certain action means to injure this person's public image and constitutes an infringement to Article 26 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to one's own image", said Boc. The Cluj-Napoca mayor claimed that, in case he did not receive the required explanations, he would sue the prosecutors, and would also ask for moral compensations for offence had been brought to his public image. "It's high time that this problem of files containing minutes of facts that have nothing to do with the case was solved in Romania once and for good", Boc added, insisting on the fact nobody had ever blackmailed him. The Democrat leader also said that, if he chose to sue the DIICOT prosecutors, he would ask for moral compensations for offence was brought to his public image. "It is not normal that people that have no connection with the file be made part in that file, as a cherry on a cake, simply because their names have a public or political connotation", the Democrat explained.

Public Ministry: Boc is a witness

The Public Ministry shows the fact that Emil Boc, a witness in the Gazeta newspaper case, "has no legal possibility to pronounce his opinion on the utility and pertinence of an evidence, the more so as he ignores the entirety of the processed evidences".

According to a press release of the General Parquet, Emil Boc was heard as a witness in the Gazeta newspaper case, "on account of some indices regarding the fact that the members of the charged group put pressure on him with the aim of making him conclude or facilitate the conclusion of several advertisement contracts with the Cluj-Napoca Town-Hall".
