LATEST Tariceanu is against talks on budgetRomanian PM Calin Popescu-Tariceanu says he is against any talks with PSD (the Social-Democrat Party) on the budget. This way he takes distance from President Basescu's statement. The latter said that the reply of one party in the Alliance to the PSD proposal to have meeting for restarting debates had been "a little arrogant and whimsical." The PM commented yesterday before the meeting of the Liberals' Executive Committee: "I am against any talks with PSD on the budget. There is nothing to talk about, there were debates of parliamentary commissions and everyone could express points of view and come up with amendments." After explaining that there were rules for parliamentary debates, Tariceanu estimated that budget talks could be completed in mid December. Tariceanu mentioned: "The project includes a set of amendments, we can't go on."
PRM and PSD members withdrew
Yesterday PSD and PRM ("Great Romania" Party) members decided to withdraw from debates on budget in the afternoon to protest against the "mocking" behavior of Liberal chair Dan Radu Rusanu. The latter described PSD amendments as not serious, which made PSD members decide to leave the room until Rusanu apologized. (...) (V.D.)
