Not even at Easter were Romanians spared of the grotesque political show performed by the very head of state they had elected. After a nightmare Basescu fancied he was in election campaign and he started to wander about the country, about Transylvanian malls and localities. For just a few days Romanians had the right to stay away from petty politics. Melescanu takes over Ministry of Defense
Yesterday when appointing Liberal Teodor Melescanu a minister of defense, the Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu mentioned the need for a calendar on the withdrawal of Romanian troops from Afghanistan, in agreement with Romania's allies.

Popa and Stefanescu on Voiculescu's black list
Dan Voiculescu, a leader of the PC (Conservative Party), has put on the black list those Conservatives who want to weaken the party and his intention is to execute them in some 2-3 weeks' time. Although he has uttered no name, Voiculescu has announced that the "dissidents" will be tackled in the next meeting of the PC Permanent Committee.

Romanian deputies and senators are likely to meet twice next week to tackle the suspension of the President of Romania Traian Basescu and his request for a referendum on the uninominal vote. Social-Democrat Ioan Muntean, a secretary of the Chamber of Deputies, announced it yesterday.
