Romania to pass Daniel Morar test
Brussels officials have demanded Romania explicitly that Daniel Morar, a head of the DNA (National Anti-Corruption Department in this country), should continue to rule over the institution. Mark Gray, a spokesman for the European Commission, has argued that the reconfirmation of Daniel Morar will be a test to show the Romanian authorities' renewed commitment.
According to the EU official, Brussels authorities are expecting the reform in Romania to progress, not to regress, mentioning that the EU officials have emphasized the good results of the DNA and the importance of institutional stability to criminal investigations and to the start of investigations in high level corruption.
Drago Kos, a president of the group of states against corruption in the Council of Europe, has opined in his turn that there is no professional reason to replace Daniel Morar, a decision which, he comments, would have negative effects in Brussels (...)
