Romania's cinema theatres have got to be a 5 million Euro catch. The state-owned "RomaniaFilm" company has got 416 such cinemas, but only 37 of them are still used as such. The others are rented for thousands of Euro. They turned into restaurants, casinos, hairdresser's, store rooms, houses of prayer or temples of various sects.
Cezar Iulius rented the cinema once called "Doina", right across the National Bank of Romania, for 1,92 Euro per 1 square meter. For a cinema theatre in central Bucharest, called "Luceafarul", Adrian Sarbu pays 2 Euro for 1 square meter. And there are more examples.
Romania's culture minister Adrian Iorgulescu initiated emergency ordinance 1792/ 2006, allowing for the privatization of state-owned cinemas. They may get sold at unbelievable prices: 1,230 Ron for "Patria", 3,900 Ron for "Scala", 9,500 RON for "Corso", 2,365 RON for "Europe" and 3691,14 RON for "Cultural".
