The senators in the juridical committee modified the Family Code yesterday, deciding that family is based on marriage "between a male and a female", but not "between spouses", as in the present norms, which would leave room for the making of homosexual families.
The representatives of the "Greater Romania" Party and the Social-Democrat Party who author the change claim the new definition for family is meant to avoid interpretations in terms of marital status documents and the solicitation for permission to agree that same sex people would become a married couple.
According to the ACCEPT Association, an NGOs protecting and promoting the rights of homosexuals, these modifications are unconstitutional and they are also breaking human rights.
