According to the Romanian Justice minister Tudor Chiuariu, the Reuters news claiming that the fight against corruption is stepping back is untrue and based on erroneous information. The Romanian official asks the agency should apologize publicly.
The minister argues that in the last weeks an ex PM, a minister and an ex President of Romania were charged and sued. He also adds that the information claiming Romania hasn't established an efficient agency to monitor the personal properties of Romanian politicians is false. The minister adds the law on the making of the National Integrity Agency was adopted in May 9, 2007 by Romanian senators and published in The Official Monitor. The Justice official comments that the fact that Reuters Agency did not ask the Romanian Ministry of Justice for official view shows disrespect for deontology. The press release also emphasizes that the Ministry thinks the report is doing severe harm to the image of both this institution and Romania. (B.C.G.)
