PNTCD (Peasants' National Party - Christian and Democrat) prime-vice-chairman Aurelian Pavelescu claimed yesterday that the solution to overcome the current political crisis is to have the Constitution amended. He explained that the fundamental law had to clearly stipulate that Romania is a parliamentary republic, a fact that would subsequently derive into precise duties for the president. "Such a solution would moderate the excesses of the president who would terminate his mandate in 2009, when these amendments become effective", said the Deputy at Iassy, yesterday. He explained that a president's suspension procedure, possibly followed by anticipated elections would bring nothing good as characters such as Gigi Becali and Vadim Tudor would thus be brought before the public opinion.
