SRI insinuates disagreement to declassify secret documents
As for the dispute on the declassifying of the information and reports that president Traian Basescu and PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu have been disputing about, SRI (the Romanian Secret Service) mentions by press release that "by various public statements they are attempting to get SRI involved in the recent evolutions of domestic political life." As for the eventual declassification of some "state secret" documents, SRI informs that article 45, paragraph 2 in law 14/ 1992 on SRI has it: "SRI documents, data and information can become public only at 40 years after reaching the archive." This law interdiction does not deny access to SRI information for those having certificate of access to state secret information they need for specific job attributions. SRI also reminds that SRI notes are meant for those persons state decision-making officials in charge of measures to prevent and fight threats and perils. (R.T.)
