The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is willing to offer Romania a financial support to deter the effects of the floods occurred recently in Moldavian region, EBRD president, Jean Lemierre announced after the meeting he had yesterday with President Traian Basescu at Cotroceni Palace. "The solution proposed was to extend the current project on the infrastructure, in amount of 100 million Euro, by supplementing the project's budget with about 45 million Euro. These funds will be allocated to works in the infrastructure, for covering the costs of rehabilitation of tens of bridges and a certain number of roads worked out by the floods", according to a press release of the Presidential Administration. The Romanian authorities have to send, in a month's time, to the EBRD board, an evaluation report. This has to contain also the identification of the reconstruction works that will need a financial contribution, following that, by November, the board of the bank decides on the financing project.
Jean Lemierre pointed out the EBRD availability to offer assistance for the development of the private sector in Romania, taking into consideration the country's accession to the European Union by the fixed term, i.e. 1 January 2007. Lemierre expressed EBRD interest in contributing, as a partner, to the privatization process in Romania, and also to the stimulation of the development of an ecological agriculture, taking into account the good premises our country benefits of in this respect.
