Hungarian campaign for Babes Bolyai University in Cluj

The initiative to split Babas Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj on ethnic criteria gets support from an international press and negative lobby campaign harming Romania. According to information voiced in Eastern Europe, the Magyars have only got three faculties teaching in their mother tongue in Cluj. But they have actually got 16 such faculties. This week German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published an article titled " Ceausescu's Institute" and subtitled " Imre Kertesz protests against the Romanian State University of Cluj". The article included a petition initiated by Nobel awarded Kertesz and meant for European institutions and Romanian authorities.

Despite his missions and duties, the Romanian foreign minister hasn't replied to our press solicitation asking for information about Romanian diplomats' attitude to such misinformation campaign.

Cluj hosts masterfully directed campaign with street protests, boycott threats and public pressure insistently demanding that UBB should split in two institutions: a Romania and a Hungarian one. Artificially made strain looks scheduled to welcome the European Commission's report due in May. It also accompanies more chain action taken by arguable representatives of the Magyar community.
