Basescu and D.A. Alliance under accusation

Yesterday D.A. ("Truth and Justice") Alliance, made up of PNL (The National Liberal Party) and PD (the Democrat Party) and presidency candidate Traian Basescu underwent a series of negative reactions and accusations. UK daily newspaper "The Economist" showed the possible parliamentary victory of D.A. Alliance as Romania's failure on the way to European integration. Moreover, the Alliance was compared to CDR (the Romanian Democrat Convention) and considered to lack unity and experience. PSD (the Socialist - Democrat Party) leader Adrian Nastase, the National Control Office and some PSD MPs accused Traian Basescu of jeopardizing the business field and offending other state officials. Nastase replies Basescu

Yesterday PSD leader Adrian Nastase started harsh attack against Traian Basescu during the PSD Council. "Do you think I am afraid to talk to this Romanian hooligan?" Nastase asked this and added Basescu only told lies. " I lived in Colentina. I can beat and swear if necessary, but Romanians don't need this", added Nastase. He opined Basescu was a sad character that destroyed everything. Nastase claimed that when he saw the opinion polls Traian Basescu "swept Stolojan off his feet and nailed him to the wall". (R.A.)

Hrebenciuc interferes

Yesterday Viorel Hrebenciuc, leader of the PSD MP group in the Deputy Chamber, stated Traian Basescu's conduct was jeopardizing Romania's EU admission and that from this point of view the PD leader was the "copy" of PRM ("Great Romania" Party) President Corneliu Vadim Tudor, informs Mediafax.
