I was under the impression that the President was elected for a 4 year term. Why do you refer to Basescu being at Cotroceni for 5 years?

According to the new Constitution, voted last year, the President will stay at Cotroceni 5 years instead of 4. They made this change because they wanted to distinguish in time the presidential elections from the legislative ones.

Thank you for the clarification. I was aware of the judiciary changes in the last Constitution, but I wasn't aware of the change in the presidential term. Very interesting....

By the way, I wanted to let Ziua know that I really appreciate the English language stories they produce. I don't read Romanian well yet (though I am working on it.) With this web site I'm able to follow what is happening in Romanian politics. Thank you.

Thank you for explaining. I was aware of some of the other changes in the new Constitution, but not the new 5 year presidential term.

I also want to express my appreciation to Ziua for translating stories into Enlgish. My Romanian is not that good (though I am working on getting better), so this web site allows me to follow Romanian politics in a way I could not do so otherwise. Thank you.
