Donato Chiarini is the new head of the European Commission's Delegation to Romania. Yesterday he brought his accreditation letters to Cotroceni Palace, Presidency Administration informs.
In his meeting with the President of Romania Traian Basescu, the newly appointed official mentioned his intention to focus on the need to develop a system to inform public opinion and provide better knowledge of fields of public interest. The Romanian President expressed confidence that the new EU team in Bucharest to be officially appointed in January 1, 2007 would contribute to the significant improvement of information on and knowledge of EU matters. Donato Chiarini is the successor of Jonathan Scheele, whose mandate to Romania came to an end last week. (A.H.)
