A violent forest fire broke out on Monday evening in the touristic Halkidiki region, northeastern Greece, close to the populated areas, says a Rompres release. According to the chief of the firefighters, Andreas Kois, blazes covered a spa region sheltering many secondary residences, not far from Polychronos.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Romanian Embassy in Athens and the General Consulate in Thessaloniki organized crisis-cells to permanently keep in touch with Romanian holidaymakers, as well as the local and central authorities in Greece, says a MoFA release. The check ups made showed there were no victims among the Romanian tourists, as they were helped to continue their journey or to come back to Romania. The crisis cells will keep on monitoring the developments and take the necessary measures on account of that. Persons who wish to get information about relatives or friends on holiday in Halkidiki area may contact Directorate General Consular Affairs by dialing the phone numbers: 3196870, 3196871 or 3196880.
