Presidential counselor on Defense matters, Sergiu Medar, stated for NewsIn Agency that President Basescu was not interested in the commercial dispute Orizont drilling rig - attacked by Iranian military ships -, but in the fate of the locked up Romanians, "as this is a matter of national security". Medar said that President Basescu tried, yesterday, "to get in touch with the Iranian authorities several times, but he didn't manage". The presidential counselor also said Romanian authorities were to decide a reaction only after and on account of the official answer they get from their counterparts in Tehran. Medar added it was premature to give details on possible reactions Romania might have in this matter. "We are in the stage of analyzing information, we are waiting for the answer of the Iranian authorities, anything else might lead to speculations", Medar concluded. (A.H.)
