The US may not start attacks from bases in Romania unless we agree, said Romanian president Traian Basescu yesterday. He also mentioned that to place nuclear facilities on Romanian territory was out of question. The Romanian official explained our country had leadership over these bases and described as "exaggeration" information according to which the US didn't have to ask for Romania's consent in order to start attacks from the bases here. Basescu opined that the US bases in the Black Sea region wouldn't make Romania's relations with Russia worse. He said the US was involved in Romania's evolution towards the EU so that our country would join the community on schedule. Yesterday the PSD (Social-Democrat Party) demanded Romanian minister of defense Teodor Atanasiu to resign or publicly admit he was unable to handle a main issue: Romania as host for anti-missile system components.
