The fusion of PNL (the National Liberal Party) and PD (the Democrat Party) is achievable, say the Democrats, but one of the greatest obstacles in the way of such unification between the parties led by Calin Popescu Tariceanu and Emil Boc is the European family to which the party to be made will affiliate. Democrat leaders say they can't afford to quit the European People's Party they have just joined after considerable efforts. Last summer PD changed social-democrat doctrine and left European socialists for the popular doctrine of the European People's Party.
