Romanian president Traian Basescu changed his speech to the Parliamentary Assembly in the Council of Europe after reading "Romanians sold for Kalashnik license" in ZIUA. His first move was to scold the Romanian minister of foreign affairs. The second was to start unprecedented attack against Moscow, which enthralled the Europeans. ZIUA was pointing to the passivity of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, effecting on the fate of Romanians abroad, and also at Bucharest authorities' fear of Russian blackmail. ZIUA was mentioning that the "Romanian offensive" the foreign affairs minister had announced made no progress for 1 year, whereas the state of Romanians living in Transdniestria, Basarabia, Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary and Bulgaria was getting worse. The Ivantoc-Petrov Popa case, the two Romanians imprisoned for 13 years because in the cells of Smirnov's pro-Russian men, is obvious proof that the Romanian Minister of foreign Affairs is powerless. All that Unureanu's diplomats did was send shy letters to the Russian Federation, without using Romania's position as president of the Council of Europe. In his recent Strasbourg speech, Basescu was firm and demanded Romanians' rights should be respected, Bucharest authorities' attitude should be taken as example and the two prisoners in Tyraspol should be set free. Right after the president's message, Unureanu announced the restart of the offensive he was boasting about one year before. On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs replied to the report by ZIUA, explaining their powerlessness in detail. The inefficiency of Romanian diplomacy is also obvious in the case of the Romanian citizen Bulgaria grabbed one year ago. ZIUA has achieved what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs failed to do: ZIUA made Bulgarian Justice progress with the Gheorghe Serban case. (...) (D.E.)
