Agriculture minister Gheorghe Flutur announced yesterday that there were no more samples to show the presence of the avian flu virus in Romania. So far the virus was detected in only 2 localities: Ceamurlia de Jos and Maliuc. In the former they discovered the H5N1, the most dangerous avian flu virus. As for the second locality, samples had a rather complicated way and were sent to London for tests rather late. (...)
WHO in Romania
Yesterday Guenael Rodier, an expert in spreading diseases at WHO (World Health Organization), said yesterday that the avian flu in Romania was still a veterinary matter. He recommended that the people in the regions where such cases were detected should avoid contact with birds. While in Bucharest, Rodier mentioned: "It is highly important that the human and veterinary sectors should work together." Rodier and a team of experts from WHO have come to Romania to evaluate the action plan set to avoid avian flu pandemic. Rodier also said it was important that in Romania there was detected no avian flu in humans.
WHO experts, public health specialists from the Health Ministry, the Bucharest Institute for Public Health and the Cantacuzino Institute have started debate on the Health Ministry's Action Plan to prevent avian flu pandemic, said health minister Eugen Nicolaescu yesterday. WHO experts asked for information on the national system of surveillance on spreading diseases that the Healthy Ministry has elaborated. The three experts from WHO are to go to the Public Health Department in Tulcea and more sanitary units in this district and more institutes.
