Lots of Palestinians, many of them Hamas adepts carrying guns, jumped over the fence separating Gaza from Egypt and invaded the area which Israeli soldiers had left. The Egyptian Police did not prevent the Palestinians from it and Palestinian security was absent. As for the ex colony Netzarim, a Palestinian tank demolished the synagogue which the youth had already set on fire. More synagogues were set on fire in Morag and Kfar Darom. The Palestinian National Authority announced on Sunday that they would demolish about 20 synagogues, but he Israeli government would not do it.
Yesterday morning the Palestinian National Authority had a meeting with president Abu Mazen. The latter was not too glad at the departure of Israeli colonies from Gaza. He said: "The Israeli government is interested in maintaining the present state of things in Gaza and Cisjordania till the end of time. A hermetically closed Gaza, turned into a large prison. They are deprived of freedom until they settle the Palestinians' border travelling." Muhammad Dahlan, Ministry of Civil Affairs, added: "Israel becomes a fool of it fancies that the occupation of Gaza is over. According to international legislation, Gaza is just a part of the lands occupied by the Israeli army during the war in 1967." But at not even one day since the official withdrawal from Gaza, the first blasts of the real "war" to be fought in Cisjordania could be heard. Gaza was just the prelude.
