Yesterday Traian Basescu had a meeting with Emperor and Empress of Japan, as well as with Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi and outstanding members of the Parliamentary League of Romanian-Japanese Friendship. After the meeting the Romanian President stated he invited the Japanese politicians to support Japanese investments in Romania: Basescu said: "Apart from the EU-Japan partnership, Romania wants to consolidate bilateral relations within this country in fields like economy and politics so that we would build a partnership to provide mutual advantages and Romanian military presence in the Far East". Press release by Presidential Administration informs that during the meeting with the Japonese prime minister the two officials took up environment matters and the UNO reform. President Basescu said Romania would provide support to "the solution allowing Romania to be more frequently present as non -permanent member of the Security Council". (A.H.)
