Under PSD control
-- Dinu Patriciu accused
Public television was under the control of PSD (the Social-Democrat Party). This is the conclusion reached yesterday, after the first questionings by the parliamentary commission investigating the activity of SRR (the National Radio Network) and TVR (the National Television Network). The 2004 Report on Romanian Press Freedom by the Press Monitor Agency - Academia Catavencu release yesterday reached the same conclusion. The Report as well as the people questioned by the parliamentary commission confirm that censorship on mass media was fully used. Critique of the former ruling party was avoided. Ion Iliescu and Adrian Nastase were the politicians to be seen on TV most often. Critique hinted at the opposition exclusively. The Media excess of PSD had a perverse effect. Most of the electorate got fed-up with it and in the end lost all interest in PSD members' messages. (M.T.)
Four persons were officially accused in the Petromedia case @ The Chair of Rompetrol Administration Council mentioned charges were groundless and biased
Dinu Patriciu, Chair of Rompetrol Administration Council, was yesterday accused officially, along with three more persons, in the Petromedia case, by prosecutors from the Supreme Court of Justice. Patriciu denied charges, which he described as groundless and biased and said presidential councilor Ioan Talpes was behind them.
Yesterday the businessman came to the Prosecutor's Office, although he had been summoned for Thursday. Dinu Patriciu said that in the following days prosecutors were to get evidence and proceed to necessary expertise. After a meeting that lasted about an hour and a half, Patriciu stated to present journalists that the charges against him were biased and had "a personal, psychological impact" on him. He mentioned: "I am convinced this inquiry will end well."
Yesterday judiciary sources quoted by Mediafax were claiming that Dinu Patriciu, main shareowner at Rompetrol, had been forbidden to leave Romania. But Rompetrol issued press release yesterday informing that prosecutors had warned Dinu patriciu and Rompetrol managers summoned to the Prosecutor's Office: "According to the criminal procedure code, no measure has been taken to forbid access out of Romania, as well as no administrative measure has been taken".
Patriciu proves all charges untrue
After rejecting the three charges against him, Patriciu started to prove each of them was untrue. (...) (Adina ANGHELESCU)
Talpes: "I don't feel guilty at all"
Yesterday former presidential councilour Ioan Talpes denied any personal intereferece in the inquiry on Rompetrol president Dinu patriciu. Talpes said:
"I don't feel guilty at all". He denied any connection to this business: " I have never had any relationship with Dini Patriciu, except for saying hello to each other at meetings."(R.A.)
